Studio Notes: Behind the Scenes at CrazyFlora

Every plant that leaves CrazyFlora has already had a small journey before it ever reaches your door. We wanted to pull back the curtain a little on what actually happens between "order placed" and "package delivered" — the part of the process most plant shops don't talk about.

Choosing What Goes Into the Catalog

We don't list a plant just because it's popular — we test it first. A new variety usually spends a few weeks in our own space before it's added to the site, so we can confirm how it actually behaves in real indoor conditions, not just what the growers' notes claim. If it's fussier or more failure-prone than we're comfortable recommending to a first-time plant owner, it stays out of the catalog, however good it looks in photos.

The Quality Check Before Packing

Before any plant is packed, someone on our team physically checks it — leaves, stem, soil moisture, and the pot itself — and any plant that doesn't meet the standard we'd want in our own home is set aside rather than shipped. It's a slower process than just pulling stock off a shelf, but it's the only way we're comfortable putting our name on what arrives at your door.

Why Packaging Takes Us Longer Than You'd Expect

Plants are genuinely one of the harder things to ship — they're alive, they're often top-heavy, and soil shifts in transit if it isn't secured properly. Our packaging is built specifically to stop the pot from moving inside the box and to protect the leaves and stem from bending during handling. We'd rather add an extra layer of padding and a day to the packing process than have a plant show up stressed.

Small Studio, Deliberately

We've kept our team and our catalog smaller than we could have scaled it, mostly because it's the only way every plant that goes out still gets looked at by a person who knows what a healthy one looks like. It means a few of our most-loved plants sell out and take time to restock — our Best Sellers collection shifts more often than the rest of the catalog for exactly this reason — but we'd rather that than compromise on the check before packing.

What We're Working On Next

A lot of what we build next comes directly from what customers ask for — more curated gifting sets, easier combinations for people furnishing a whole room at once, and steady expansion of our Plant Combos for anyone who'd rather order one thoughtfully put-together set than pick plants individually.

FAQ

Why do some plants show as out of stock so often? We intentionally keep our catalog smaller so every plant can be personally checked before it ships — that means popular varieties do sell through faster than a mass-stocked shop.

Do you test every plant before adding it to the site? Yes — new varieties spend time in our own space first so we can genuinely vouch for how they handle typical indoor conditions.
